HUHRA is run entirely by local volunteers, and we'd love to welcome a few more people onto the Committee.

What We Do

Could You Be Part of the HUHRA Team?

We'll be electing Committee members at the Special General Meeting on Thursday 10th September. Ideally you should be able to attend, but if you can't make the meeting and would still like to get involved, let us know beforehand and you can still be elected in your absence.

Anyone elected at the SGM will serve until our next AGM, making this a great opportunity to see whether the role suits you and fits around your other commitments. If it turns out not to be the right fit, you can resign at any time.

You don't need any special experience or lots of spare time—just a willingness to help represent our community and support the work HUHRA does. Guidance and support will always be available, and you'll be joining a friendly team.

Committee Roles Available

Vice Chair

  • Support the Chair and Committee.

  • Step in for the Chair when needed.

  • Help coordinate HUHRA activities and projects.

  • Encourage volunteers and resident involvement.

Treasurer

  • Help keep track of HUHRA's finances

  • Record income and expenditure

  • Keep a simple inventory of any assets

  • Provide occasional financial updates.

    You don't need to be an accountant; just comfortable with numbers and simple record keeping.

Minutes Secretary

  • Take notes at Committee and General Meetings

  • Prepare the meeting minutes afterwards.

    Minutes don't need to be a word-for-word transcript—just a clear and accurate summary of discussions, decisions and actions.

    We'll provide guidance and support if you've never done it before.

General Committee Members

  • Represent residents' views

  • Attend meetings when you can

  • Help make decisions about local issues

  • Support HUHRA's activities and events.

    Whether you can help regularly or just occasionally, every contribution makes a difference.

    Looking to gain experience, build your CV or give something back to the local community? We'd love to have you involved. Whether you can help with social media, events, newsletters or just attend the occasional meeting, every bit of support makes a difference. References are available.

What Does Being on the Committee Involve?

Committee meetings are friendly and informal, and if you miss the occasional meeting that's absolutely fine; we know everyone has other commitments!

  • When: Usually the first Monday of each month

  • Where: The Joiners Arms

  • Time: 6pm

  • Duration: Around 1½ hours.

Agendas are shared in advance so you'll always know what's coming up.

Thinking of Standing?

Almost any HUHRA member can put themselves forward for election. The only exceptions are if someone is currently facing serious legal or criminal proceedings, or has been found guilty of such an offence within the last two years. To help ensure the Committee represents as many residents as possible, Committee members should come from different households and not be closely related.

If you'd like to stand, you'll need two other HUHRA members to support your nomination (a proposer and a seconder). Committee members are then elected by a vote of members at the meeting.

Once elected, you'll serve until the next AGM, unless you decide to step down sooner.
