Victoria Terrace Bins: We Want Your Views
Help Us Find A solution For Everyone
HUHRA has been working with the Council’s Waste Enforcement Team regarding the bins serving the student properties at 22–28 Victoria Terrace.
Residents have raised concerns that the bins are frequently left on the pavement, where they can block access, be blown over, and create an untidy appearance. We are keen to find a solution that works for everyone.
With assistance from the Waste Enforcement Team and the Land Registry, we have confirmed that the bins are located on private land (previously a small walled garden). Enforcement action can only be taken if the bins cause a significant obstruction on the pavement.
A Possible Alternative
One option we have discussed with the Council is moving these properties to a sack collection system, with secure storage provided at the rear of the properties until collection day. The Council has confirmed this would be acceptable.
However, there are some concerns:
Whether landlords would provide appropriate secure storage
Whether sacks might be put out too early
The potential impact on the existing rat problem along Victoria Terrace
If wheeled bins remain in place, another option would be asking landlords to ensure bins are stored at the rear of properties during extended vacant periods.
Before discussing the matter directly with student landlords we’d love to hear your views.
We’d Particularly Like to Hear From Students
We are especially keen to hear from the students living at these properties, as you are directly affected. Your experience and suggestions are important in helping us find a practical and fair solution.
