Liquorice Park
Our beautiful natural space
Liquorice Park has been an important part of our community since at least the 16th century, when it was used as agricultural land. By the 1990s the 4 acre allotment site had become a run down, neglected eyesore, and we got fed up of looking at it!
So our community put together the Halfway Up the Hill Festival, and the funds we raised were used to seek Millennium Green Status for the site. A grant from the Countryside Agency followed, and in 1997 the land was released to become a public space. Liquorice Park was born!
The Park is maintained entirely by a great team of volunteers. If you fancy getting involved, get in touch with Alison Griffiths, the Volunteer Coordinator, at alison@liquoricepark.co.uk or 07944 581550. She’ll arrange a time for you to pop down to have a chat about your interests and skills, and get a feel for volunteering at the park. After that, there are usually two volunteer sessions each week.
10.30am – 1.00pm Wednesdays
10.30am – 1.00pm Sundays
Though there’s no obligation to attend specific sessions it’s really helpful to know who’s coming so that jobs can be planned, and to make sure there’s enough tea and biscuits for the 11:30 break!
