Hello, and welcome to the HUHRA website
‘Halfway up the Hill’
As a community we have previously achieved wonderful things: We put together the Halfway Up the Hill Festival and the funds we raised were used to seek Millenium Green Status for the under-used allotment site at the bottom of Alexandra Terrace. In 1997 this site was released to become a public space, and Liquorice Park was born! Had our community not come together then this valuable green space would without a doubt have been sold to developers.
For nearly 8 years we fought to try and stop a monstrous build on Carline Road. Though we sadly failed we did manage to reduce the size and scale of the planned development which became The Heights. Many residents are still proud to say that they were members of this strong community force.
Over the years the community has fragmented. We also became increasingly frustrated that the remaining voice we had left was just not being heard any more. So as we are just outside the WERA boundary we thought having our own Residents Association would provide an opportunity to make a real difference to our community, whilst at the same time bringing it closer together.
HUHRA formed on the 29th July 2024.
We intend to act as a positive group within the local community, supporting and actively fostering good municipal relations, whilst at the same time addressing issues of concern, and making improvements to our neighbourhood. We really hope that, by harnessing the enthusiasm and skills of local residents to more actively shape our area, we will build the local community we need over the coming years.
