Built as the City Sale Room in 1912 the wide entrance was designed for carts, with stables behind. From 1935 it was assocaietd with Jospeh Cox, an auctioneer and estate agent. During the Second World War, it was used for training connected with the Royal Observer Corps, including aircraft recognition and plotting aircraft movements. In the 1970s and 1980s, the building housed J. H. Todd Office Supplies, which gave rise to the name Todson House. Its later uses included the Old School House Club (1993), Café Rouge (1997–99), Big Wok (2000–11) and the children's play centre Imagination Station. This historic lane follows the line of the western Roman defences for this part of Lincoln. The Roman stone wall that was built around 175-200 AD, was approximately 1.5metres thick, and had an earth rampart and a defensive ditch along side it. Only a small section of the wall remains today.
